Wenlan Mansion Display Center is an architecturally significant display center located in the tourism section of West Mountain's Dian Lake, Kunming, that exemplifies innovative architectural design through its harmonious integration with the natural landscape and thoughtful spatial organization. The center, which garnered a Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, masterfully leverages the site's varying elevations and ecological resources to create a vertical architectural composition that bridges urban living with natural surroundings. The design draws inspiration from traditional Kunming courtyard architecture, incorporating axis symmetry and front-back yard layouts to divide the space into three distinct areas: a cultural exhibition zone, water courtyard, and private garden. The project's innovative approach to addressing the challenging 5-meter ground level disparities and complex geological conditions resulted in a sophisticated vertical cityscape that includes multiple interconnected spaces. The architectural composition features a water spiral stairwell, carefully curated visual corridors, and an interactive circling experience pathway that guides visitors through various themed spaces including the display area, entrance, front corridor, townhouse showroom, and villa showroom. The center's facade incorporates traditional Yunnan architectural elements, utilizing materials such as stone and metal aluminum plate to create a contemporary interpretation of local architectural heritage. The thoughtful design extends to the entrance area, which centers around a water courtyard, creating a centripetal space that offers a serene transition from urban bustle to natural tranquility, while the building's wide overhangs and careful consideration of natural light contribute to optimal interior comfort.
