Wellem Pediatric Optometry Center

Wellem Pediatric Optometry Center is an innovative medical facility design that reimagines traditional healthcare spaces through a creative fusion of oceanic and space station themes, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. This 1,440-square-meter facility revolutionizes pediatric healthcare environments by transforming clinical spaces into an engaging, child-friendly universe inspired by an imaginative narrative of an interplanetary medical mission. The design philosophy deliberately departs from conventional hospital aesthetics, featuring curved architectural elements that echo ocean waves and eliminate harsh angles, creating a more welcoming atmosphere for young patients. The interior architecture incorporates sophisticated design elements including a curved reception desk that harmonizes with the overall spatial flow, atomized glass film treatments for privacy enhancement, and distinct color schemes that separate adult and pediatric areas - utilizing Morandi green with textured wall coverings in adult sections for a refined, sophisticated ambiance. The children's recreation area stands out with its abstract interpretation of marine life and interactive play devices that reinforce the ocean space station concept, while the overall design maintains a pristine white base palette punctuated by spacecraft cabin-inspired elements. Completed in May 2019 in Shanghai, this groundbreaking project successfully addresses the challenge of reducing children's anxiety about medical visits through thoughtful environmental design, while simultaneously promoting a preventive healthcare philosophy. The design's innovative approach to healthcare spaces demonstrates how interior architecture can positively influence medical experiences, particularly for younger patients, making it a significant contribution to the evolution of pediatric healthcare facility design.
