Wabi Sabi Residential House

Wabi Sabi Residential House

Wabi Sabi Residential House is an exemplary residential interior design project that masterfully embodies the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of wabi-sabi, completed in January 2023 in Taichung City, Taiwan. This 100-square-meter dwelling, designed by Miles Tseng, demonstrates a sophisticated interpretation of minimalist principles through its thoughtful integration of natural light, texture, and spatial harmony. The design's distinctive features include a horizontal layout with subtle level changes delineating living spaces, flush-mounted hidden doors that maintain visual continuity, and a carefully curated material palette emphasizing grayscale finishes and natural textures. The interior architecture incorporates innovative solutions such as damp-proof and air-purifying paints to reduce reliance on electrical equipment, contributing to its eco-friendly characteristics. The space planning encompasses an entrance, living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms, with each area thoughtfully composed to maximize natural light and spatial flow. Notable design elements include a sophisticated kitchen island featuring dark brown stone surfaces, ink-colored aluminum ceiling gratings that create subtle lighting effects, and custom storage solutions that maintain the aesthetic purity of the space. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies excellence in its harmonious balance of functionality and aesthetic refinement, particularly through its masterful manipulation of light and shadow, creating an atmosphere that evolves throughout the day in response to natural light patterns.
