Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding
Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding is an award-winning interface and user experience design project that represents a pioneering approach to digital auction platforms through the integration of Mixed Reality technology, specifically developed for Apple Vision Pro to address fundamental challenges in online jewelry auctions including trust deficits, limited interactivity, and insufficient product visualization capabilities that have historically impeded user confidence in digital luxury goods transactions. Designed by Leying Bi and developed under the creative direction of Buling design studio, Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding emerged from comprehensive research methodologies including internet ethnography and in-depth interviews with high-end jewelry auction participants, which identified critical pain points in existing online auction experiences and established the foundational research question of how to enhance user confidence and browsing experiences in digital auction environments. The design employs sophisticated Mixed Reality capabilities to enable users to virtually try on jewelry pieces and participate in live auctions from any location, effectively dissolving the traditional boundaries between physical and digital auction participation while maintaining the emotional intensity and anticipation characteristic of traditional in-person bidding experiences. Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding incorporates digital twin technology to create precise virtual representations of physical jewelry lots, thereby enhancing credibility, facilitating accurate value assessment, and enabling secure secondary market transactions within a transparent ecosystem that addresses longstanding concerns about authenticity and provenance in online luxury goods trading. The interface architecture was meticulously developed using Figma and Adobe Photoshop, with extensive usability testing conducted through Google Cardboard simulator to ensure optimal functionality, while strict adherence to Apple Vision Pro design guidelines governed critical design parameters including button dimensions of 16mm x 16mm, minimum spacing requirements of 16mm, maximum height constraints of 48mm, and a structured typographic hierarchy utilizing SF Pro font with sizes ranging from 12 pixels for auxiliary text to 48 pixels for titles, all calibrated to enhance gesture recognition and eye-tracking accuracy for seamless auction participation. The user journey within Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding commences with browsing upcoming auctions through the Apple Vision Pro interface, progresses through detailed inspection of digital twin lots using eye-tracking and gesture controls that enable comprehensive examination and virtual try-on experiences, continues through real-time bidding in immersive virtual reality auction environments that replicate the atmospheric intensity of physical auction houses, and concludes with options for displaying certified digital twin jewelry or engaging in secure resale transactions within the platform ecosystem. The design process confronted significant challenges in balancing functional complexity with interface simplicity, as initial brainstorming sessions informed by user research generated extensive feature concepts that risked overwhelming users with excessive complexity, necessitating iterative feasibility testing, rigorous validation procedures, and careful consideration of information hierarchy to distill the design to its most essential and impactful features while preserving intuitive navigation and visual clarity. Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding distinguishes itself through its innovative synthesis of augmented reality visualization, artificial intelligence-enhanced bidding mechanisms, and social interaction frameworks that collectively transform the online auction experience from a transactional interface into an immersive, emotionally engaging environment that captures the anticipation and exhilaration traditionally associated with the fall of an auctioneer's gavel. The project development spanned from June 2024 to January 2025 in Qingdao, Shandong, China, encompassing comprehensive phases of initiation, design, development, and testing, with evaluation methodologies including System Usability Scale scoring and virtual reality testing to assess and optimize user experience parameters. Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding received the Silver A' Design Award in the Interface, Interaction and User Experience Design category in 2025, a distinction that recognizes top-tier designs demonstrating excellence and innovation through aesthetically refined and highly functional solutions that reflect deep understanding and advanced skill, with Silver A' Design Award recipients acknowledged for their contributions to raising industry standards and advancing design practice through works that incorporate original innovations and elicit strong emotional responses while making notable impacts on everyday life improvement. The recognition as a Silver A' Design Award winner, one of the world's most prestigious design accolades, designates Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding as a tremendously brilliant and exceedingly creative work that illustrates outstanding expertise, talent and acuity, representing a remarkably professional and profoundly innovative solution characterized by strong technical attributes, splendid artistic skill, original innovations, discerning emotional elements and insightful creativity that showcases a remarkable level of excellence. The design methodology employed by Leying Bi incorporated user-centered design principles, personas, journey maps, empathy maps, and decision matrices to develop initial concepts and information architecture, followed by multiple interface iterations refined through low-fidelity and mid-fidelity prototypes, demonstrating a rigorous research-driven approach that ensures solutions address genuine user needs while pushing boundaries of digital engagement through the intersection of social interaction, gamification, and Mixed Reality technologies. Vision Auction Online Jewelry Bidding represents a significant advancement in digital commerce interfaces for luxury goods, establishing new paradigms for trust-building, product visualization, and experiential engagement in online auction platforms while contributing to the broader evolution of Mixed Reality applications in commercial contexts, thereby redefining the future of digital jewelry trade through transparent, efficient, and personalized auction ecosystems that seamlessly merge technological innovation with traditional auction house experiences.
