Virtual Embodiment
Virtual Embodiment is when a person feels like they are inside a digital world, using a virtual body that moves and reacts like their own. In immersive design, this effect is stronger when the virtual body matches the user's movements in real time, such as when a hand in the digital world moves exactly when the user moves their real hand. Designers can use simple tricks like matching the field of view, or letting users see their virtual limbs, to make the experience feel more real. When the virtual body gives feedback, like a vibration when touching something, the sense of being present in the digital space grows. Designers often use these techniques to help people feel connected to the digital world, which can make games, training, or art installations more engaging.
