Villa A Residential House
Villa A Residential House is an architecturally distinctive holiday residence situated in the ancient Gauja river valley of Latvia, exemplifying a harmonious integration of modern design with natural topography. This Silver A' Design Award-winning structure, designed by Santa Meikulane with interior expertise from Lolot Design and architectural execution by OUTOFBOX, demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to its environmental context through its innovative positioning on a steep slope, creating unique visual perspectives from various angles. The 280-square-meter residence incorporates a sophisticated three-level design, with the lowest floor housing leisure facilities, including a sauna, wine cellar, and swimming pool terrace. The main level features a dramatic living space with a 12-meter retractable glass facade that dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior environments, while the upper level presents a striking metal-framed structure offering panoramic 270-degree views. The building's architectural composition masterfully balances aesthetic minimalism with environmental consciousness, employing low-energy principles through its compact design, strategic glazing placement, and solar thermal collectors. The interior design maintains an austere yet welcoming atmosphere through the thoughtful interplay of exposed concrete surfaces, extensive glazing, and natural oak elements, enhanced by sophisticated smart home technology that enables comprehensive control of various lighting scenarios. This residential project, recognized at the prestigious A' Design Award competition in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a significant achievement in contemporary residential architecture, successfully merging technological innovation with environmental consciousness while maintaining strong aesthetic principles.
