Vigorousness Residential House
Vigorousness Residential House is an award-winning residential interior design project that masterfully harmonizes traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary Western design principles. Located in Taipei, Taiwan, this 280-square-meter dwelling exemplifies a sophisticated approach to modern Asian living spaces through its thoughtful integration of traditional craftsmanship and innovative design solutions. The project, completed in October 2019 by designer Shun-Yuan Chang, draws inspiration from China's 5,000-year cultural heritage while embracing modern architectural sensibilities. The design's distinctive features include meticulously crafted bamboo screens woven with cotton ropes at precise 3mm intervals, mounted within titanium-plated stainless steel frames, creating an intricate interplay of geometric patterns and layered textures. The interior palette adheres to traditional Chinese painting principles, utilizing black, white, indigo, and blue to create a serene yet dynamic atmosphere. Notable architectural elements include 2.9-meter-high cabinet doors that maximize the standard 3-meter ceiling height of Taiwanese apartments, creating an enhanced sense of spatial grandeur. The entrance is distinguished by a contemporary interpretation of Chinese arch motifs through grid design, while custom ironwork throughout the space showcases a fusion of traditional bamboo weaving techniques with Western craftsmanship. The project, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in overcoming the challenges of incorporating magnificent Chinese architectural elements within the constraints of modern urban dwelling spaces, while successfully maintaining cultural authenticity and contemporary functionality.
