Veins Of Stone Residential

Veins of Stone Residential is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies contemporary luxury living through meticulous material selection, spatial precision, and technological integration, transforming a previously abandoned residential shell in Beitou, Taiwan into a refined modern dwelling that establishes a profound dialogue between built environment and natural landscape. Designed by Shan Chin Lee and completed in January 2025 after a development period commencing in June 2023, this one hundred sixty-five square meter residence encompasses three bedrooms, two living areas, and a kitchen, organized around a sculptural marble island that functions as both functional centerpiece and artistic focal point. The design philosophy emerged from the client's vision of creating a home that would anchor new beginnings following their return from overseas, with the conceptual foundation rooted in a carefully selected marble distinguished by dark hues, metallic sheen, and bold veining patterns that flow with painterly quality throughout the space. The material realization involved extraordinary precision, with the natural marble undergoing six mockup iterations to achieve optimal grain alignment, while stainless steel cabinetry, low iron glass, and brushed metal finishes were integrated to provide durability, texture, and visual coherence. A particularly notable technical achievement involved the custom engineering of a one hundred fifty centimeter motorized entrance door, which required sophisticated balancing of weight distribution and operational smoothness, representing both the project's greatest challenge and a defining accomplishment. The interior architecture maximizes the site's natural assets through full-height windows that frame views of the adjacent creek and forest, effectively transforming the surrounding landscape into living scenery that shifts with seasonal and diurnal cycles. Smart home systems are comprehensively embedded throughout the residence, synchronizing lighting, climate control, and audio systems while requiring careful planning to accommodate dense wiring infrastructure without compromising aesthetic purity or future maintenance accessibility. The design demonstrates commitment to sustainable principles through specification of eco-certified wood that reduces formaldehyde emissions, stainless steel cabinetry selected for durability, moisture resistance, and recyclability in alignment with circular economy principles, and energy-efficient smart systems that optimize resource consumption. The master suite exemplifies the project's spatial sophistication, featuring full-height windows with a cushioned bay window that invites contemplative retreat, while a concealed door provides access to a boutique-style dressing room where warm tones and glass panels create curated displays of textures and light. The corridor evolves beyond mere circulation into a refined feature wall integrating dark cabinetry and illuminated shelving, where light traces material grains to blend functional storage with aesthetic elegance. The marble island base incorporates glass display cabinets with frosted stainless steel framing and concealed lighting, demonstrating how utilitarian elements can be elevated to contribute to the overall design narrative. The research methodology underpinning Veins of Stone Residential explored material precision, proportional relationships, and smart system integration through six marble mockup tests, lighting simulations, and system trials, with data derived from on-site prototyping conducted in collaboration with material suppliers and system specialists, yielding insights that optimized stone alignment, lighting effects, and control interfaces while establishing replicable strategies for luxury residential projects. Developed for PU Zhen Interior Design, a Taiwan-based practice specializing in interior design and spatial planning that develops customized processes adapted to individual client needs and contexts, the project reflects the studio's emphasis on communication as foundational to shaping residential environments and translating everyday living into functional and meaningful spaces. Veins of Stone Residential received the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2025, one of the world's most prestigious design competitions, with the Silver designation recognizing top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation, acknowledging creations that are not only aesthetically compelling but also highly functional, reflecting deep understanding and skill while incorporating original innovations that elicit strong emotional responses and make notable impacts on the improvement of everyday life. The award recognition validates the project's contribution to raising industry standards and advancing design practice through its tremendously brilliant and exceedingly creative approach that illustrates outstanding expertise, talent, and acuity, with the design standing for its strong technical characteristics, splendid artistic skill, original innovations, discerning emotional elements, and insightful creativity that showcase a remarkable level of excellence.
