v.az Partition Screen is an innovative and interactive furniture piece that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of natural inspiration and parametric design principles. Created by Brazilian designer Andrea Macruz, this sophisticated partition screen embodies the concept of fluidity through its distinctive triangular openings, which were inspired by the intricate leaf coloring patterns found in false shamrock and calathea-louisae plants native to Brazil. The screen, measuring 2500mm in width, 20mm in depth, and 1750mm in height, is masterfully crafted from precision-cut pinewood strips manufactured using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) technology, with six strategically positioned steel cables providing structural integrity at various heights. The design's most remarkable feature lies in its dynamic interaction with space, as its carefully engineered openings create ever-changing visual effects when viewed from different angles or when the screen's shape is modified. This transformative quality is achieved through advanced computational design techniques, specifically utilizing Rhinoceros 3D modeling software and its parametric plugin Grasshopper, representing a sophisticated blend of digital fabrication and artisanal craftsmanship. The project, which was completed in 2016 and earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in its approach to space division while maintaining a strong connection to natural forms. Its collapsible nature facilitates easy transportation and storage, making it both aesthetically compelling and practically functional.
