Väre Decorative Cushion

Väre Decorative Cushion

Väre Decorative cushion is an exemplary piece of Nordic furniture design that embodies the principles of sustainable luxury and functional aesthetics. Created by Finnish designer Sanna Paakki in 2013-2014, this innovative cushion represents a harmonious fusion of genuine leather and 100% felted wool, demonstrating a sophisticated approach to material utilization and ecological consciousness. The design, measuring 600mm in width, 300mm in depth, and 170mm in height, showcases a distinctive combination of rough Nordic aesthetics with refined craftsmanship, featuring an exterior that pairs the softness of leather with the natural warmth of wool. The cushion's development was driven by an innovative approach to material efficiency, specifically utilizing recycled and leftover furniture leather pieces, while maintaining high manufacturing standards within Finland. Available in a carefully curated palette including white, black, aniline, blue, and light brown, with a consistent light gray reverse side, the cushion exemplifies durability and timeless design principles. This creation, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2016, represents a significant achievement in sustainable luxury home accessories, combining practical innovation with aesthetic excellence. The design's success lies in its ability to balance cost-effective production methods with high-quality materials, resulting in a product that not only serves its decorative purpose but also stands as a testament to responsible manufacturing practices in contemporary Nordic design.
