Usaaan Sharing Umbrella is an innovative urban mobility solution and social design initiative that revolutionizes the concept of umbrella sharing through a sophisticated rental platform. Developed by designers Qin Zhen and Feng Ligeng, this system addresses the fundamental challenge of weather protection in urban environments while promoting social cohesion and sustainable resource utilization. The design integrates advanced Internet technology, sophisticated lock structures, and an intuitive mobile interface to create a seamless user experience. With dimensions of 1100x560x260 millimeters, the system employs a unique self-service mechanism that enables multiple umbrellas to be managed through a single lock point, facilitating efficient circulation and accessibility. The service design framework encompasses three crucial elements: product design, brand touchpoint design, and commercial design, all meticulously developed through collaborative innovation methodologies. Utilizing customer journey maps, stakeholder analysis, and value frameworks, the system creates a comprehensive service ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders while fostering a spirit of mutual assistance and trust among urban citizens. The project, which was initiated in Guangzhou in December 2016 and launched in Foshan in June 2017, represents a significant advancement in social design, earning recognition with the Golden A' Design Award in the Social Design category. This accolade acknowledges the project's exceptional contribution to urban living solutions and its innovative approach to combining commercial viability with social welfare. The design's emphasis on strengthening citizens' sense of belonging while addressing practical mobility needs demonstrates its comprehensive understanding of both functional and social design principles.
