Urban Oasis Of Nexus Sports Centre is an innovative architectural masterpiece that reimagines the traditional concept of sports facilities, seamlessly integrating athletic spaces with natural surroundings in Shatin, Hong Kong. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project, completed in 2019, represents a paradigm shift in sports center design by departing from conventional massive block structures in favor of a harmonious arrangement of interconnected spaces inspired by traditional temple architecture. Spanning 12,900.94 square meters of construction area on a 6,193-square-meter site, the facility employs a sophisticated terraced design that responds intelligently to its hillside topography. The architecture incorporates passive environmental design principles, featuring naturally ventilated circulation spaces, strategic use of frosted and low-E glazing, and thoughtfully positioned courtyards that significantly reduce energy consumption. The design philosophy emphasizes intergenerational engagement through carefully crafted visual connections between interior and exterior spaces, including games arenas, fitness rooms, dance studios, and contemplative gardens. Materials such as fair-faced concrete, granite, and timber were selected to achieve visual harmony with the surrounding landscape, while the building's tectonic elements are deliberately articulated to minimize its apparent mass. The center serves as a vital community hub, offering spaces for both active sports and passive recreation, including dedicated areas for traditional practices like Tai Chi, effectively bridging the gap between rural and urban communities while respecting the site's spiritual significance as a gateway to a Feng Shui hill.
