uptown Restaurant is an innovative hospitality design project that exemplifies the fusion of neo-classical pub aesthetics with modern architectural solutions, created by designer Devesh Bhatia. This distinctive establishment, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design category, represents a sophisticated approach to contemporary dining spaces through its unique spatial organization and suspended mezzanine design. The restaurant's architectural concept revolves around creating intimate, den-like spaces while maintaining an open, welcoming atmosphere that appeals to patrons of all ages. The design's most notable feature is its ingeniously engineered mezzanine floor, suspended from the ceiling using steel tension cables that double as aesthetic elements, eliminating the need for supporting columns and creating an unobstructed space below. Drawing inspiration from modern Irish pubs and traditional street balconies, the interior showcases exposed brick walls, natural wood paneling with mid-gloss finish, and self-leveling white concrete flooring. The space is thoughtfully segmented into distinct zones: an elevated mezzanine area offering cozy dining spaces, intimate seating arrangements beneath the mezzanine, and full-height areas that provide a more expansive dining experience. The layout incorporates a dramatic double-height entrance featuring brewery tanks, an extensive bar, and specialized areas including a live pizzeria and smoking room, all accessed via two bifurcating staircases leading to the suspended mezzanines. Completed in December 2015, this project demonstrates exceptional innovation in hospitality design through its creative solution to spatial challenges and its successful integration of technical engineering with aesthetic considerations.
