Up By Reform Sustainable High-Quality Kitchen

Up by Reform Sustainable High-Quality Kitchen is an innovative sustainable kitchen design system that exemplifies the convergence of environmental consciousness and premium craftsmanship, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category. This minimalist kitchen concept, designed by Jeppe Christensen and Michael Andersen in Denmark, represents a groundbreaking approach to circular economy principles in kitchen design through its ingenious use of reclaimed Douglas fir wood sourced from surplus materials of a renowned flooring manufacturer. The design draws inspiration from classic craftsman kitchens while addressing contemporary environmental challenges through thoughtful material selection and sustainable production methods. The kitchen system features meticulously crafted fronts composed of 13-15 cm wide boards, finished with light oil to enhance the natural characteristics of the wood, with variations in grain, color, and shine celebrating the organic nature of the reclaimed materials. The countertops, constructed from carefully selected wood pieces glued together, can span up to 4,500 mm in length and 1,100 mm in width, with a refined 23 mm thickness and subtle 1 mm radius edges on all sides. This sustainable kitchen solution demonstrates exceptional versatility through its compatibility with standard kitchen systems, allowing for easy integration and modification of existing installations. The design's commitment to sustainability extends beyond material choice to encompass the entire lifecycle of the product, from production to potential future recycling, while maintaining high aesthetic standards and functional excellence. The project, completed in 2018, represents a significant advancement in sustainable kitchen design, offering a practical solution to urban living challenges while prioritizing environmental responsibility and timeless aesthetics.
