Uod Chandelier

Uod Chandelier

Uod Chandelier is an innovative smart lighting fixture that represents a significant advancement in adaptive illumination technology, combining sophisticated design with practical functionality. This ceiling-mounted luminaire, designed by Andrea Cingoli and Umberto La Sorda, draws inspiration from the mechanical principles of artificial satellites' solar panel positioning systems, translating this aerospace technology into domestic lighting applications. The chandelier features a transformative design that evolves from a triangular base prism into a dynamic illuminating object, utilizing OLED panels mounted on mobile stems that can adjust their position to optimize lighting conditions for specific tasks. Constructed from brushed aluminum and steel, the fixture spans 1100mm in diameter when fully extended and contracts to 200mm, with a consistent height of 500mm. The chandelier's intelligent system incorporates Bluetooth connectivity to interface with users' mobile devices, enabling automatic light intensity measurement and adjustment. This smart functionality allows the fixture to detect user presence, assess environmental conditions, and automatically configure its illuminated surfaces parallel to work areas for optimal visual comfort. The design's emphasis on energy efficiency is achieved through its innovative transformation system, which optimizes lighting effectiveness through positioning rather than increased power output. Winner of the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, this chandelier exemplifies the integration of smart technology with user-centered design principles, offering an elegant solution that adapts to users' needs while maintaining energy consciousness and sophisticated aesthetic appeal.
