Unfinished: Yang Shuhui Collections Album is an innovative graphic design project that revolutionizes the traditional concept of art collection presentation through its unique interactive format and psychological engagement with viewers. Created by Chinese designer LYU Wei, this sophisticated publication draws inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window to create an immersive viewing experience that transforms casual observation into deep engagement. The album's distinctive design features a complex folding page system where artworks are strategically concealed, requiring viewers to physically interact with the publication to discover its contents. Each painting's title appears three times throughout the book, building anticipation and curiosity before revealing the actual artwork, exemplified by intriguing titles such as Toad's oil. The physical construction employs a sophisticated combination of materials, including 300 gsm kraft paper for the cover, varying weights of matte-coated paper for internal pages, and an advanced glue binding system reinforced with nails. A notable technical achievement is the innovative solution to the traditional folding page limitation, where each folding page incorporates two folding sides at both the incision and spine, ensuring structural integrity while maintaining the intended interactive experience. This groundbreaking design approach, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, demonstrates exceptional creativity in transforming the passive act of viewing art into an active, engaging experience that bridges the gap between exclusion and involvement in artistic appreciation.
