Unbounded Residence

Unbounded Residence

Unbounded Residence is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of indoor and outdoor spaces through thoughtful architectural intervention. Located in Keelung District, New Taipei City, this 78-square-meter residential renovation project represents a significant departure from traditional Taiwanese housing layouts by redefining the functionality of balcony spaces and creating a more fluid living environment. The design philosophy centers on breaking down conventional spatial boundaries while establishing a stronger connection with nature. Through the strategic enlargement of balcony spaces and the implementation of an open-plan layout, the project transforms a typically elongated Taiwanese housing layout into a more dynamic and light-filled living space. The design employs sophisticated material choices, including basalt, timber veneer, and corrosion-proof masonry materials, which not only echo the natural elements but also address practical concerns related to the coastal environment. A notable feature is the innovative window system, comprising electrically operated energy-conserving shutter louvers and adjustable folding windows, which provides protection against tropical weather conditions while maintaining visual connectivity with the exterior environment. The interior design scheme utilizes neutral tones of black, white, and grey, complemented by Oriental styling elements and Western open-plan concepts, creating a sophisticated fusion of Eastern and Western design sensibilities. Recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, this project demonstrates excellence in sustainable design practices and spatial innovation, particularly in its approach to optimizing living spaces in urban environments. The design's emphasis on creating unbounded spaces that promote free-flowing movement while maintaining a strong connection to the natural environment represents a significant contribution to contemporary residential interior design.
