U Villa Residential House

U Villa Residential House

U Villa Residential House is an innovative residential architectural project located in Al-Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that masterfully integrates cultural symbolism with contemporary design principles. The structure's distinctive U-shaped configuration draws inspiration from the traditional horseshoe, a symbol of cultural significance in Saudi Arabia, while its exterior envelope pays homage to the Burqa'a, creating a harmonious blend of pride, privacy, and architectural sophistication. The 760-square-meter residence, designed by architect Adel Badrawy and completed in 2019, exemplifies thoughtful spatial organization through its ground-plus-three-floor layout, effectively separating public and private zones while maintaining an open floor plan concept. The design incorporates innovative interpretations of traditional architectural elements, including a contemporary take on mashrabiya through vertical and horizontal louvers, and an Al miqaad al saify (summer terrace) oriented to optimize natural ventilation. The building's exterior features local marble stone in varying beige and brown hues, evoking the desert landscape and referencing traditional Ablaq stonework, complemented by wooden louvers and dark grey aluminum windows. The residence, which garnered recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, successfully addresses modern living requirements while preserving cultural authenticity through its thoughtful integration of traditional elements, environmental considerations, and functional spaces that cater to a six-member Saudi family.
