Turtle Chair Chair
Turtle chair Chair is an innovative furniture design that harmoniously combines human ergonomics with pet-friendly architecture, created by designer Tsung-Jen Lin. This distinctive piece, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, represents a groundbreaking approach to dual-purpose furniture design that considers both human comfort and animal welfare. The chair's unique form draws inspiration from ancient Chinese mythology, where turtles are revered as auspicious creatures symbolizing longevity. The design features an organic, curved structure with 77 precisely machined slices joined at 45-degree angles, creating a sophisticated interplay of light and shadow. The chair's dimensions (1400mm x 2200mm x 940mm) accommodate both human seating requirements and provide a natural habitat-like space for turtles underneath. Two strategic openings in the lower section serve as an entrance for the turtle and a feeding area, while the upper surface incorporates ergonomic curves for human comfort. The innovative construction method, utilizing texture-treated surfaces to reduce glare and complex angular joints, represents a significant technological advancement in furniture manufacturing. This design challenges conventional people-centric furniture design paradigms by incorporating environmental consciousness and multi-species cohabitation principles, effectively demonstrating how contemporary furniture can foster harmony between humans and their animal companions while maintaining aesthetic excellence and functional sophistication.
