Tulpi-Arabesque Waste Bin

Tulpi-Arabesque Waste bin is an innovative street furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of functional waste management and artistic expression, drawing inspiration from both tulip flowers and Arabic ornamental patterns. This sophisticated waste receptacle, designed by Marco Manders, features a distinctive slender and elegant silhouette reminiscent of traditional Middle Eastern minarets, incorporating two curved composite petals that enclose a solid round steel post with a welded container tray. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category, showcases a 42-liter capacity inner waste liner and employs advanced materials including Sheet Moulding Compound for the outer tray and steel for the inner components. Standing at 1195mm in height with a 470mm diameter, the bin's unique architectural form creates an engaging visual presence while serving its practical purpose. The design's distinguishing feature is its brightly colored inner tray, visible from all angles, which allows for easy monitoring of waste levels and maintenance needs. The structure incorporates sophisticated engineering elements, including a specialized fold-system for proper petal closure, and can be equipped with motion sensors and electronic opening mechanisms. This waste bin represents a thoughtful solution to urban waste management challenges, encouraging proper waste disposal through its attractive and culturally resonant design while maintaining durability and functionality required for public furniture installations.
