Tsukiji Sushiiwa Tsukijiten Sushi Resutaurant
Tsukiji Sushiiwa Tsukijiten Sushi Resutaurant is an exemplary interior design project that masterfully reimagines the traditional Japanese sushi dining experience, located in the historic Tsukiji district of Tokyo. Designed by acclaimed architect Hiroaki Iwasa, this sophisticated establishment spans 254.5 square meters and represents a thoughtful fusion of traditional Edomae sushi culture with contemporary spatial design principles. The restaurant's centerpiece is its meticulously crafted sushi counter, accommodating 14 seats, where the height differential between customers and chefs has been precisely calibrated to optimize interaction and viewing angles. The space incorporates high-quality materials, including precious Hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood, expertly applied plasterwork, and handcrafted Japanese paper, all executed by master craftsmen. The design philosophy emphasizes the preservation and elevation of traditional sushi culture while creating an immersive dining environment that includes various seating arrangements: traditional tatami rooms accommodating 18 and 6 seats respectively, floor seating for 18 guests, and table space for 14 patrons. A notable innovation is the integration of frameless, highly transparent glass showcases semi-embedded within the counter, designed to minimize visual interference while maintaining optimal food presentation. The project, completed in May 2007, has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in spatial design, functionality, and cultural preservation. The restaurant's design demonstrates particular attention to the essential elements of Edomae sushi preparation, where the chef's craftsmanship and the quality of fresh seafood are highlighted through thoughtful spatial arrangement and lighting design.
