This specialized mobility aid, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Pet Care, Toys, Supplies and Products for Animals Design category, features a sophisticated design comprising two rear wheels for enhanced stability and mobility, complemented by a front wheel mounted on a carefully engineered metal tube frame that provides essential support through an ergonomically designed chest cup. The device's distinguishing characteristic lies in its unique construction that allows handicapped dogs to independently mount and dismount without requiring strapping mechanisms or owner assistance, thereby promoting autonomy and improved quality of life for the animals. The wheelchair's thoughtfully bent metal frame creates adequate clearance for natural leg movement, while the height-adjustable pole accommodates different dog sizes, demonstrating exceptional versatility in its application. Constructed using a combination of bent metal frame and fiberglass chest cup, the wheelchair measures 685 mm x 630 mm x 550 mm, offering optimal support while maintaining maneuverability. The development process, which spanned from July 2019 to December 2020, involved extensive research and multiple prototype iterations to address the unique challenges of designing for non-communicative subjects, resulting in a series of differently sized chest cups to ensure proper fit and comfort.
