Trill Machine Voice Processing Device
Trill Machine Voice Processing Device is an innovative series of interactive voice processing installations that explores the intersection of sound manipulation, user interaction, and artistic expression. This experimental design consists of three distinct components - Air, Wave, and Necklace - each employing different technological approaches to create vibrato effects in human voice output. The Air component utilizes aerodynamic principles through a fan-based system that modulates vocal input, featuring dimensions of 400 x 400 x 550mm for the triller and 300 x 200 x 500mm for the speaker unit. The Wave element incorporates a pressure-sensitive pedal system connected to a computer interface, generating dynamic visual representations of voice modulation while simultaneously processing audio input, with the screen measuring 450 x 450 x 1500mm. The Necklace component, measuring 600 x 500 x 700mm, employs a mechanical piston system that physically creates vocal vibrato through neck contact, with adjustable impact frequencies. Developed between June 2017 and May 2018, this installation combines simple circuits, engine components, and digital processing through Arduino and Processing programming languages to create a unique interactive experience. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, challenges conventional notions of functionality in design by deliberately creating sophisticated solutions for seemingly superficial purposes, thereby questioning societal and occupational paradigms in contemporary design practice. The installation's technical sophistication, coupled with its conceptual depth, represents a significant contribution to the dialogue between fine art and product design, while its interactive nature encourages user engagement and experimentation with vocal expression.
