Trident Public Toilet is an innovative public sanitation facility that exemplifies the modernization of urban infrastructure through product standardization and sustainable design principles. Developed by designer Yan Gu and implemented in Shanghai Pudong in 2019, this architectural solution represents a significant advancement in public facility design, incorporating unified visual elements, modular construction, and human-centric features to enhance user experience. The structure distinguishes itself through its sophisticated blue fluorocarbon paint perforated panel curtain wall exterior and brushed stainless steel accents, complemented by a photovoltaic power generation system on the roof that not only powers the facility but also provides electricity to surrounding areas. The interior design emphasizes functionality and maintenance efficiency, featuring gray waterproof paint treatments and an integrated artificial marble hand-washing station with all-corner design to minimize water accumulation and facilitate cleaning. Each installation ranges from 40-70 square meters in area with heights of 3.5-5 meters, incorporating advanced technologies such as human body induction lamps, sensor-operated faucets, and an sophisticated air purification system. The project, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category, addresses critical urban challenges including hygiene maintenance, accessibility, and facility management through its comprehensive approach to public utility design. This innovative solution emerged from China's Toilet Revolution initiative, demonstrating how architectural design can be approached as a product development process to create more sustainable and user-friendly public facilities.
