Transparent Summer Residential Space

Transparent Summer Residential Space is an innovative residential interior design project that reimagines contemporary living through the strategic placement of a central architectural element, metaphorically referred to as an ice cube. This 90-square-meter apartment, completed in 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan, represents a significant advancement in modern residential space planning and functionality. The design's cornerstone is its distinctive central box structure that serves as both a functional core and an aesthetic focal point, effectively connecting various living spaces while maintaining visual continuity. The project employs a sophisticated material palette including wooden tiles, plating metal, and glass, creating a harmonious interplay of textures and transparencies. A notable technical achievement is the innovative solution for concealing mechanical systems within architectural elements, particularly the integration of air conditioning and power supply infrastructure within specially designed beams that also incorporate lighting features. The living space is thoughtfully divided into distinct zones, including a primary bedroom, a versatile multi-function room adaptable for studio or guest accommodation, and an open-plan living area that seamlessly integrates dining and kitchen functions. The design's emphasis on transparency and spatial fluidity is further enhanced through the use of glass partitions and strategically placed reflective surfaces, while the walk-in closet's industrial-inspired iron and shelf construction adds a contemporary edge. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies how thoughtful spatial planning and material selection can transform residential architecture into a more dynamic and functional living environment.
