Transparency Residential Interior Design

Transparency Residential Interior Design

Transparency Residential Interior Design is an innovative residential interior design project completed in 2020, exemplifying a sophisticated fusion of minimalist aesthetics and metaphysical concepts in contemporary living spaces. This 122-square-meter apartment, designed by Li-Yu Cheng and Yu-Chen Chen, represents a groundbreaking approach to spatial design through its masterful integration of seemingly contradictory elements - curves and angles, polished steel and concrete, creating a harmonious living environment. The design's cornerstone is its revolutionary treatment of wall surfaces, where traditional walls are transformed into functional carriers through the application of bent stainless steel, ingeniously housing essential fixtures including kitchen elements, storage solutions, and mechanical systems. The project's distinctive feature lies in its exploration of light interaction with materials, where natural light refraction on hairline-finished stainless steel surfaces creates captivating spatial expressions. The design overcomes significant technical challenges, particularly in the custom fabrication of asymmetrical wire shelving, which was meticulously crafted on-site due to access constraints. This innovative approach to residential design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional prowess in combining philosophical depth with practical functionality, while exploring the interplay between opacity and transparency, substance and attribute, and potentiality and actuality in architectural space.
