Tokin Tokin House

Tokin Tokin House is an innovative residential architectural design located in Nagoya City, Japan, that masterfully addresses the challenges of a triangular site while creating a distinctive living space for a family of four. The structure, completed in 2015, exemplifies creative space utilization through its mixed-construction approach, combining reinforced concrete on the ground floor with wooden construction for the upper levels. The name Tokin Tokin, derived from local dialect meaning sharp, perfectly captures the building's striking angular geometry. The design ingeniously incorporates a through passage between two roads, enabling three parking spaces while elevating the main living areas to the second and third floors. The building, occupying a site area of 112.4 square meters with a total floor area of 136 square meters, features a distinctive V-shaped plan that maximizes the available space. The intersection of this V-shape houses the central living room, benefiting from natural daylighting and ventilation through strategically placed voids. The exterior is characterized by dry board walls with spray finish and a Galvalume steel plate roof, while the interior showcases refined oak wood flooring with oil finish and plaster-finished walls. This architectural achievement, recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in addressing urban spatial constraints while creating a comfortable living environment. The design's success lies in its ability to balance functional requirements with aesthetic appeal, creating a landmark structure that harmoniously integrates with its surroundings while maintaining a unique architectural identity.
