Tirintas Lounge Chair
Tirintas Lounge Chair is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of contemporary design principles with traditional Filipino craftsmanship. This abstract structural piece features a sophisticated metal frame enveloped by an artistically woven wood veneer screen, creating a dynamic interplay of materials and forms. The design, conceived and executed through a collaborative process between modern design methodology and traditional artisanal techniques, draws inspiration from Philippine cultural elements, particularly traditional dwellings and basket weaving patterns. The chair's distinctive aesthetic is characterized by fluid, interwoven lines that showcase the material's flexible properties while highlighting exceptional artisanal skill. Its dimensions of 967mm width, 883.5mm depth, and 725mm height are carefully calculated to provide optimal ergonomic comfort, with the seat featuring a subtle backward tilt enhanced by cushioning. The design process, which spanned from 2013 to 2015, involved extensive research into Filipino craft traditions and contemporary furniture design methodologies, resulting in a piece that successfully bridges cultural heritage with modern functionality. Each chair is meticulously crafted with individually layered and hand-shaped twists, utilizing certified plantation wood veneer and metal framework. The open structure design serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, creating a visual connection with its surroundings while providing comfortable seating. This innovative approach to furniture design earned recognition at the prestigious A' Design Award competition, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, acknowledging its contribution to contemporary furniture design through its unique combination of cultural preservation and modern innovation.
