Times/Peanut Free Reading Space
Times/Peanut Free Reading Space is an innovative interior design project that transformed a double-story retail space into an integrated longitudinal reading environment, exemplifying the seamless fusion of functionality and artistic expression. The design, created by Chinese designer Gu Teng, masterfully incorporates three-dimensional composition as its core design element, applying graphic design principles to spatial architecture to create a dynamic and visually captivating atmosphere. Spanning 620 square meters, with dimensions of 6.7 meters in width, 45 meters in length, and 8 meters in height, the space features a sophisticated combination of materials including emulsion paint, bare concrete, metal, glass, and epoxy resin self-leveling flooring. The interior arrangement includes custom-designed two-level high bookshelves and nine distinct communication areas, each equipped with uniquely dimensioned sofa and table sets, accommodating up to 40 visitors simultaneously. The design's emphasis on color concentration creates rhythmic visual effects throughout the space, while the minimalist construction approach delivers maximum spatial impact. The project, completed in 2015, demonstrates exceptional space optimization and functional layout design, earning recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for its innovative approach to creating a contemporary reading environment that balances practical functionality with artistic merit.
