Timbiriche Work Table
Timbiriche Work Table is an innovative and transformative furniture piece that reimagines the traditional concept of a work surface through its dynamic and adaptable design. Created by Mexican designers Cecilia Alcocer and Diego Lizama, this sophisticated work table features a distinctive board composed of 197 sliding cedar wood pieces arranged in 200 spaces, allowing users to create customized configurations for their workspace. The design, which won the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, draws inspiration from the Mexican game Timbiriche, incorporating its essence of bringing order from chaos into a functional piece of furniture. The table's construction showcases a harmonious blend of materials, combining handcrafted cedar wood pieces that rest on a glass pane supported by a metal frame, while four V-shaped Machiche hardwood supports eliminate the need for horizontal reinforcements. Measuring 1900mm in width, 850mm in depth, and 750mm in height, the table's surface responds to contemporary needs through its ability to be continuously reconfigured, with wooden pieces that can be slid, removed, or placed to create transparent spaces where objects appear to float. This architectural approach to furniture design emphasizes the relationship between user and object, acknowledging the dynamic nature of modern work environments and the need for adaptable solutions. The ergonomic sizing of the wooden pieces corresponds to common workplace items such as pens and glasses, ensuring practical functionality alongside aesthetic appeal. The table represents a significant innovation in furniture design, offering a living stage that transforms according to user needs while maintaining a strong visual identity through its careful material selection and craftsmanship.
