Tianqingli Residential Townhouse

Tianqingli Residential Townhouse

Tianqingli Residential Townhouse is an exemplary architectural project that masterfully reimagines traditional Chinese residential design for contemporary living, situated along the Shangtang River in Hangzhou, the former capital of the Southern Song Dynasty. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning residential development, designed by Likun Shen, encompasses a total site area of 17,900 square meters with 8,500 square meters of building area, accommodating 32 households. The design draws profound inspiration from Song-style literati gardens, translating their poetic essence into a modern architectural language while maintaining cultural authenticity. The project's innovative approach incorporates a patented curtain wall system that combines aluminum alloy with wood structure, demonstrating a sustainable interpretation of traditional Chinese architectural elements. The spatial organization follows a sophisticated arrangement of multi-sided landscapes and multiple courtyards, creating a harmonious dialogue between built form and nature while carefully balancing openness with privacy. Distinguished by its response to local climate and traditional living patterns, the development features a series of interconnected spaces including courtyard clusters, communal lanes, and private gardens, all of which pay homage to the thousand-year-old cultural heritage of the region. The project, completed in October 2021, represents a significant achievement in contemporary Chinese architecture, particularly in its successful integration of traditional design principles with modern construction technologies, establishing a new paradigm for residential architecture at the intersection of urban and natural environments.
