Tianjin Vanke Plaza Jiulong Road Shopping Center

Tianjin Vanke Plaza Jiulong Road Shopping Center is a significant urban mixed-use complex located in the Hexi district of Tianjin, China, strategically positioned north of the People's Park and southeast of the Five Avenue historical district. This 25,569-square-meter architectural masterpiece represents a thoughtful renovation of a beloved local supermarket into a contemporary shopping destination, seamlessly integrating modern design elements while honoring its historical significance. The building's distinctive facade combines white panels, which pay homage to its previous incarnation, with innovative copper panels and glass curtain walls that facilitate natural illumination and visual connectivity. The interior design showcases sophisticated lighting solutions, featuring high color rendering index (90) illumination systems that enhance the two-storey main atrium and highlight the artistic tainted glass staircases, creating an immersive environment reminiscent of M.C. Escher's Relativity lithograph. The lighting design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, employs 3000K linear light systems with dynamic changes that symbolize renewal and vitality, utilizing LED linear outline lamps (12 watt, 90 degree) and LED flood lights (6.1 watt, 42 degree) to achieve both functional and aesthetic excellence. The project's sophisticated design approach considers its contextual relationship with surrounding institutional buildings, including government offices and the Tianjin Foreign Studies University, while serving as a vital commercial hub that bridges traditional retail heritage with contemporary shopping experiences.
