Tian Yue Large Apartment

Tian Yue Large Apartment

Tian Yue Large Apartment is a sophisticated residential interior design project completed in 2012 in Nanjing, China, encompassing 260 square meters of living space on the top floor of a building. This innovative design, created by architect Sheng Tao and team, represents a significant departure from traditional Chinese residential layouts through its pioneering use of curved architectural elements and spatial fluidity. The project's distinctive feature lies in its revolutionary approach to space optimization, where conventional room demarcations are intentionally blurred, except for essential private areas such as bedrooms and bathrooms. The design philosophy centers on the divine nature of arcs, incorporating sweeping curves that gracefully connect different functional zones, creating a harmonious flow throughout the residence. Originally intended for a large family by developers, the space was masterfully reimagined for a family of three, demonstrating exceptional adaptability in spatial planning. The material palette includes sophisticated elements such as solid wood multi-layer floors, mosaics, inferior smooth bricks, artificial environmental plates, steel frames, toughened glass, plasterboards, and artificial stones, all carefully selected to complement the curved architectural elements. The project garnered international recognition, including a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to contemporary living spaces. The design successfully challenges traditional Chinese residential conventions while maintaining functionality, representing a significant contribution to modern interior architecture through its bold geometric expressions and spatial innovations.
