Three Monkeys Bar and Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the fusion of Japanese IZAKAYA culture with contemporary industrial aesthetics, situated in the heart of Hong Kong. Completed in March 2013, this 2,200-square-foot establishment draws its conceptual inspiration from a whimsical narrative about three Mars-dwelling monkeys who discovered craft beer on Earth. The design masterfully translates this story through carefully curated industrial elements, including cast iron fixtures, round steel studs, and spacecraft-inspired furniture pieces that create an immersive dining environment. The space features distinctive design elements such as wire-framed pendant lights suspended above individual tables, concrete flooring, raw table tops, and cast iron structural components that collectively establish a rustic industrial atmosphere. The bar area showcases a sophisticated copper-plated cabinet displaying Japanese sake bottles, while black and white vintage Japanese photographs and graphics mounted on exposed brick walls add cultural depth and personality to the venue. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional material selection, incorporating cast iron, stainless steel, bronze studs, reclaimed wood, and back-painted glass to create a cohesive design narrative. The establishment specializes in yakitori and homestyle Japanese cuisine, complemented by an extensive beverage program featuring cocktails, fine wines, sake, whiskeys, and craft ales, all served within an environment that masterfully balances industrial elements with modern design sensibilities.
