Thinker Kids Library

Thinker Kids Library is an innovative educational space design that reimagines the traditional library concept for young learners, integrating multiple functionalities within a compact 300-square-meter area. Conceived and executed between July 2022 and February 2023 in Hong Kong, this transformative interior design project, created by designer Brendan Cheung, represents a sophisticated blend of educational architecture and imaginative storytelling. The space is distinguished by its distinctive architectural elements, including cave-like arches and varying floor levels that effectively delineate different functional zones while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from fairy tales and incorporating Christian storytelling elements, the design features bright color schemes, flowing shapes, and oversized fixtures that create an immersive learning environment. The library's multifunctional design accommodates various activities including public seminars, children's workshops, teacher training sessions, interactive lessons, and storytelling events, all supported by an adaptable lighting system that enhances the space's versatility. Safety considerations were paramount in the selection of materials and fixtures, given the young user demographic. The design's centerpiece is an architecturally significant arch hallway, specifically scaled for children, which serves as a symbolic gateway to learning. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates excellence in combining STEM education principles with creative spatial design, successfully integrating educational functionality with imaginative aesthetics. The project's collaborative development process notably included input from children, educators, and administrators, making it a truly community-centered design that transforms a former staff office area into a vibrant educational hub.
