Thea Theatre Chair is an innovative children's furniture design that seamlessly integrates play and functionality, transforming from a conventional chair into an imaginative puppet theatre. Created by Spanish designers Maria Baldó and Daniel Ortega, this multifunctional piece exemplifies thoughtful design for children's cognitive and social development. The chair's distinctive feature lies in its ingeniously designed back panel, which serves as a theatrical stage, while a concealed drawer houses finger puppets and doubles as a privacy screen for young puppeteers. Crafted from high-quality plywood through numerical control processing, the chair combines natural varnished lateral components with curved, lacquered sections for the seat, back, and drawer elements. The incorporation of a whiteboard surface on the drawer lid enables children to customize their theatrical presentations through drawings that can be easily erased and recreated. With dimensions of 340mm width, 400mm depth, and 630mm height, the design adheres to stringent safety regulations for children's furniture while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. The chair, which won the Golden A' Design Award in the Baby, Kids and Children's Products Design category, represents a sophisticated understanding of how children interact with furniture, transforming everyday objects into platforms for imaginative play and social interaction.
