The Zodiac Bookmark

The Zodiac Bookmark

The Zodiac Bookmark is an innovative stationery design that artfully merges traditional Chinese zodiac symbolism with contemporary bookmark functionality. Created by Chinese designer Wenxian Liu, this sophisticated design transforms the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac into elegantly crafted bookmarks, each rendered in high-toughness stainless steel with an 18k gold electroplated finish achieved through precise CNC engraving processes capable of 0.3mm accuracy. The design concept uniquely portrays the zodiac animals as if they are walking within the pages of books, creating an engaging visual narrative that bridges cultural symbolism with practical utility. The complete set is presented in thoughtfully designed packaging featuring a circular arrangement of the zodiac illustrations, symbolizing completeness and the cyclical nature of the Chinese zodiac calendar. The color scheme deliberately incorporates traditional Chinese red and gold, colors associated with joy and blessings in Chinese culture. This design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category, successfully addresses the challenge of unifying twelve distinctly different animals - from small mice to large cattle and mythical dragons - into a cohesive series while maintaining each creature's unique characteristics through simplified lines and modern design techniques. The project, developed over a year in Shenzhen, China, represents a thoughtful fusion of cultural heritage and functional design, measuring 303mm×155mm×35mm in its complete package form.
