The Urban Foundry Restaurant And Bar

The Urban Foundry Restaurant And Bar

The Urban Foundry Restaurant And Bar is an innovative culinary establishment and social space that masterfully integrates industrial aesthetics with contemporary functionality, located in Pune's prominent IT and automobile hub. This Silver A' Design Award-winning venue, designed by Ketan Jawdekar and Elham Mirza, exemplifies a remarkable approach to adaptive reuse and industrial-inspired design, transforming an unfinished construction site into a sophisticated dining destination. The 270-square-meter space features distinctive design elements including suspended tables supported by chains and clamps, kinetic wall-mounted gears, and container bars that reinforce its foundry-inspired theme. The establishment's architectural character is defined by exposed brick walls, metal-braced columns, MS trusses, and industrial mesh ceilings, complemented by concrete-finish vitrified flooring and decorative tile accents. The design philosophy deliberately contrasts with its modern surroundings while recycling construction materials to create an authentically raw, industrial atmosphere. The venue's versatile functionality allows it to serve multiple purposes throughout the day, functioning as a co-working space, meeting venue, and casual dining establishment during daylight hours, transforming into a vibrant restaurant and bar in the evening. The space's 5.5-meter height and thoughtful lighting design, incorporating both natural illumination and Edison bulbs, creates varying atmospheric conditions that adapt to different times of day and patron needs. The design successfully balances masculine industrial elements with subtle feminine touches, creating an environment that appeals to diverse clientele while maintaining its distinctive character.
