The True Knight Gaute Commercial Space is an innovative retail interior design project that reimagines the traditional concept of a bespoke tailoring establishment, completed in November 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. This 121.5-square-meter commercial space, designed by Millton Yu, masterfully breaks away from the stereotypical British gentleman's tailor shop aesthetic while maintaining the elegance of traditional craftsmanship. The design philosophy centers on creating a harmonious tension between contemporary and classical elements, featuring a striking modern painting at the entrance that serves as a focal point and establishes a minimalist atmosphere. The space's narrative is enhanced through thoughtful design elements, including a semi-finished suit display that showcases bespoke tailoring techniques through an artistic collage of different fabrics. The interior architecture employs sophisticated linear elements that emphasize division, contrast, and continuity, creating a visually balanced environment that transcends conventional suit store designs. A particularly innovative feature is the transparent showcase at the rear, which offers customers a view into the tailor's studio, making the craftsmanship process visible and educational. The exterior maintains a subtle presence in its residential setting through the use of pebble stone and cement finishes, while the interior space transformation earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in spatial design, material selection, and innovative approach to retail experience.
