The Tea Lounge Hotel Lobby is an innovative hospitality design concept that reimagines the traditional hotel lobby as a contemporary interpretation of a Central Asian tea house (chaikhana) and caravanserai, created by British designer Henry Chebaane. This 375-square-meter space represents a sophisticated fusion of ancient Silk Road traditions with modern luxury hospitality requirements, structured around a central four-sided tea studio that serves as both a functional and symbolic heart of the space. The design philosophy draws deeply from the cultural significance of tea ceremonies in Asian social life, transforming these traditional rituals into a modern lifestyle experience while maintaining their authentic essence. The space is architecturally organized with loose furniture arrangements positioned on individual rugs, some placed beneath stainless steel canopies that symbolically reference nomadic tents, all radiating from the central tea altar which functions as a metaphorical hearth. This innovative lobby design incorporates advanced boiling water tap technology in its central tea studio, creating theatrical tea-making ceremonies enhanced by carefully positioned spotlights that illuminate the rising steam. The color palette employs botanical browns and greens, reflecting various stages of tea production, while the overall design seamlessly accommodates multiple functions throughout the day, from morning breakfast service to evening drinks and late-night refreshments. The project, which was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design category, emerged from extensive research conducted across Taiwan tea plantations and traditional tea houses in Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, demonstrating a deep commitment to authentic cultural integration within a contemporary luxury context.
