The Swimming Whale Dessert Shop
The Swimming Whale Dessert Shop is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of marine-inspired aesthetics with contemporary retail architecture, realized in Taichung City, Taiwan. This sophisticated two-floor dessert establishment, spanning 495 square meters, features a striking façade adorned with mineral varnish walls that evoke the luminescent quality of pearls. The design concept draws profound inspiration from oceanic elements, particularly embodied in its centerpiece display counter, which ingeniously incorporates the mathematical precision of the nautilus shell's spiral form. The interior space is characterized by its pristine white palette, enhanced by the dramatic interplay of an automatic circular entrance door and strategic illumination. The ground floor houses the main display counter, crafted from premium white marble and complemented by sophisticated glass display cabinets, while the second floor is dedicated entirely to dining spaces. The design's most distinctive feature is its fluid architectural language, expressed through a sculptural wooden ceiling that mimics whale spouts and underwater bubbles, creating an immersive maritime atmosphere. The furniture selection includes custom-designed marble and wooden tables that echo the undulating forms of ocean waves, contributing to the cohesive nautical narrative. This exemplary retail design project, completed in 2018, was honored with the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2019, recognizing its exceptional integration of functionality, aesthetics, and innovative spatial planning. The project demonstrates remarkable attention to traffic flow and spatial organization, creating an invigorating layout that transforms a rectangular space into a dynamic environment that poetically captures the essence of marine life while serving its primary function as a high-end dessert establishment.
