The Sun House Sustainable Social Building

The Sun House Sustainable Social Building is an exemplary sustainable architectural project that masterfully integrates solar power technology, green design principles, and environmental symbiosis. Completed in 2020 in Chiayi County, Taiwan, this innovative structure encompasses 4,496 square meters of total area, including 440 square meters of indoor space. The building's distinctive geometrically bevelled exterior, designed by Po Wen Cheng and Chun Hsiung Tu, features strategically positioned solar panels that optimize energy generation while maintaining aesthetic appeal. The structure employs a sophisticated 65.57kW solar system utilizing 60-cell modules, with panels configured to allow 25% light transmission on the south side and 9% on the roof, resulting in a 40% reduction in solar radiation heat and maintaining indoor temperatures three degrees cooler than conventional buildings. The interior showcases an impressive commitment to sustainability, incorporating 90% recycled cypress timber collected over four years, transformed into various architectural elements including ceilings, flooring, furniture, and wall decorations. The building's advanced systems include a heat pump for temperature regulation and a rainwater harvesting system capable of collecting and storing 10 tons of water for irrigation of 250 square meters of garden space. This groundbreaking project, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in sustainable architecture through its comprehensive approach to energy efficiency, resource conservation, and environmental integration.
