The Star Retail & Cultural

The Star Retail & cultural is an innovative mixed-use architectural development located in Singapore's one-north district at Buona Vista, exemplifying a harmonious integration of retail and cultural spaces through its dynamic, multi-faceted design. This landmark structure, designed by Andrew Bromberg of Aedas and recipient of the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, encompasses a total gross area of 62,000 square meters, featuring a 5,000-seat auditorium within The Star Performing Arts Centre and an open-air mall known as The Star Vista. The building's distinctive architectural language is characterized by faceted glass fissures that effectively dissolve large masses, creating a compelling interplay of positive and negative spaces while maintaining visual balance. The structure employs advanced engineering solutions, incorporating approximately 11,000 tons of structural steel above Level 3 and utilizing a high-performance triple-glazed glass system with fiberglass interlay to mitigate solar heat gain. The design's innovative approach to tropical architecture is evident in its carefully considered environmental strategies, where the building's form is specifically engineered to capture and accelerate prevailing northerly and southerly breezes through outdoor spaces, creating naturally comfortable environments without relying on artificial conditioning. Standing 75 meters tall, the development serves as a premier entertainment and lifestyle destination, distinguished by its permeable design that blurs traditional boundaries between public and private spaces. The project's social architecture is manifested through a series of interconnected ramps, escalators, terraces, and public gardens that encourage exploration and community engagement, while climate-ameliorated outdoor spaces protected by strategic canopies offer shelter from Singapore's tropical elements while maintaining natural ventilation.
