The Song Of Whales And Sea Restaurant
The Song of Whales and Sea Restaurant is an innovative architectural and interior design project completed in 2019, located in Taichung, Taiwan, that masterfully integrates contemporary minimalism with biophilic design principles. The 600-square-meter establishment, designed by Yu-Ting Chang, presents a distinctive architectural form that metaphorically resembles a tame whale residing within the urban landscape, characterized by its sleek exterior and pure white aesthetics. The restaurant's design philosophy harmoniously merges natural elements with modern architectural features, incorporating extensive clear glass panels, smooth curves, and open layouts that facilitate natural daylight penetration. The L-shaped building encompasses an outdoor landscape complete with a pool and verdant surroundings, creating an urban oasis effect. The interior space planning demonstrates exceptional functionality, with dining booths strategically arranged outward from the corner-positioned kitchen to optimize traffic flow. Notable design elements include an achromatic reception counter accented with gold embellishments, curved architectural details symbolizing ocean waves, and laser-engraved screens depicting swaying seaweeds. The restaurant's sophisticated design approach, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2020, successfully creates a distinctive dining environment that combines comfort with visual sophistication through its thoughtful integration of contemporary minimalism, elegant gold accents, and invigorating verdant ambience.
