The Smell Of Book Sales Office
The Smell of Book Sales Office is an innovative interior design project that masterfully integrates Chinese cultural heritage with contemporary spatial design principles, completed in 2020 in Chengdu, China. This sophisticated sales office, spanning 500 square meters (20m x 25m x 8m), draws profound inspiration from the 5000-year Chinese history, particularly incorporating the symbolic and aesthetic elements of traditional book scrolls throughout its architectural narrative. The design's most distinctive feature is its ingenious use of book scroll motifs as both an artistic installation and a functional wayfinding element, naturally guiding visitors from the second-floor sales office to the first-floor model room. The space employs premium materials including mirror stainless steel, acrylic, white stone, curved mirrors, and terrazzo, crafted with advanced techniques such as seamless welding and artistic hidden line fishing technology. The interior's scholarly atmosphere is enhanced through thoughtful material selection and multi-level aesthetic experiences, creating an environment that encourages contemplation and intellectual engagement. French windows are extensively utilized to eliminate visual obstacles and create a seamless connection with the outdoor environment, resulting in an immersive spatial experience. The project, recognized with a Gold A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies excellence in combining cultural elements with practical functionality, demonstrating innovative space utilization and sophisticated material application. The design team's meticulous research into Chinese scroll aesthetics and display methods has resulted in a space that not only serves its commercial purpose but also stands as a cultural landmark that bridges traditional Chinese design philosophy with modern architectural practices.
