The Shelter Residential House

The Shelter Residential House

The Shelter Residential House is a meticulously renovated duplex mountain villa located in the suburbs of Taipei, exemplifying a harmonious blend of modernist architecture and natural surroundings. Originally a 35-year-old structure, this residential project underwent a comprehensive transformation that emphasized the refinement of horizontal and vertical lines while establishing a sophisticated dialogue between transparency and environmental context through multi-layered cubist design principles. The interior space, spanning approximately 160 square feet, showcases innovative spatial planning centered around a multifunctional TV cabinet that serves as a pivotal element, creating six distinct traffic flow areas that seamlessly connect the foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, countertop, and study areas. The design's distinctive features include a wood veneer and baking paint-treated dining room ceiling that artfully accentuates the sloped roof structure, while a stainless steel knitted room divider provides an elegant solution for displaying artwork and incorporating greenery. The master bedroom, situated on the second floor, demonstrates thoughtful consideration for privacy through precisely calculated window placement, while the interior's material palette and architectural elements address practical challenges such as high humidity while maintaining aesthetic sophistication. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project, completed in 2018, represents a significant achievement in residential interior design, particularly in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category, showcasing innovative solutions for modern living while preserving a strong connection to nature and cultural elements, such as accommodating the owners' interests in calligraphy and art collection.
