The River One Residential Apartment
The River One Residential Apartment is a distinguished residential development located near a river in Ningbo city, China, exemplifying a harmonious blend of avant-garde architecture and sophisticated interior design. Originally conceived by renowned architect Richard Rogers, the building's distinctive bowellism style and irregular polygonal structure create a striking visual presence that complements its riverside setting. The interior design, completed in 2021, masterfully addresses the challenges presented by the building's multi-angular, non-square spaces through an innovative approach that embraces fluidity and adaptability. The design philosophy incorporates tortuous, water-like elements throughout the layout, establishing a profound connection between the interior spaces and the surrounding riverscape. The project, which spans approximately 280.99 square meters, employs a sophisticated material palette including marble, sintered stone, metal components, mirrors, and glass, creating an atmosphere that caters to young urban professionals while maintaining the architect's signature noble and high-tech aesthetic. Notable design features include a 270-degree view maximizing visibility, circular and curved ceiling elements that evoke flowing water, and ring-shaped light strips that create dynamic light and shadow interactions reminiscent of sparkling water surfaces. The interior seamlessly extends to outdoor areas, utilizing curved lines and directional shifts to soften the building's angular structure. This exceptional design approach earned the project a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its innovative space utilization and creative excellence in addressing modern living requirements while maintaining architectural integrity.
