The Power Nap Chair

The Power Nap Chair

The Power Nap Chair is an innovative furniture design solution that addresses the growing concern of sleep deprivation and workplace wellness through its ergonomic approach to short-term rest periods. Created by designer Martin Tsankov in collaboration with Milen Kisov, this versatile piece represents a significant advancement in workplace furniture design, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. The chair's distinctive cocoon-inspired form incorporates a unique foldable hood that provides essential privacy by reducing ambient light and noise, enabling users to disconnect completely from their surroundings. Its construction showcases exceptional attention to detail, featuring a robust carbon steel profile foundation that follows a triangular concept for optimal stability, complemented by 104 precision-crafted CNC-milled birch plywood triangles. The design emphasizes sustainability through the use of biodegradable memory foam and wool upholstery, while maintaining a commitment to user comfort and environmental responsibility. With dimensions of 950mm in width, 2000mm in depth, and 1170mm in height, the chair offers a compact yet effective solution for both open-plan offices and smaller spaces. The development process, which spanned from January 2022 to December 2023, was informed by extensive research involving over 600 participants across multiple European cities, revealing a significant demand for workplace rest solutions. This research-driven approach led to multiple design iterations, resulting in a final product that successfully balances functionality, aesthetics, and environmental impact while addressing the stigma often associated with workplace resting.
