The Mountain Residential House
The Mountain Residential House is an innovative architectural masterpiece situated in Chiayi City, Taiwan, completed in 2018, that exemplifies a harmonious blend of natural aesthetics and contemporary residential design. This four-floor residential structure, spanning 12,563 square feet, draws its primary inspiration from Mount Alishan, deliberately incorporating the mountain's majestic silhouette into its architectural form through carefully crafted crest lines and eave patterns. The design philosophy centers on creating a seamless connection between built environment and natural landscape, achieved through strategic use of materials including Low-e glass, exposed concrete, titanium plating, and natural stone elements. The residence features sophisticated spatial planning incorporating multiple functional areas including living spaces, dining areas, private suites, and specialized rooms, all oriented to maximize views of Mount Alishan through expansive French casements. The interior design demonstrates particular attention to materiality, with natural stone walls of varying depths creating visual depth and texture in the living spaces, complemented by custom wooden furnishings that reinforce the natural aesthetic. Notable technical achievements include the implementation of raft foundation and S.R.C structural design with level 8 earthquake resistance, while environmental considerations are addressed through the extensive use of Low-e glass for thermal efficiency and natural light management. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, represents a significant achievement in sustainable luxury residential architecture, successfully balancing aesthetic ambition with environmental responsibility through features such as thoughtfully designed storage solutions, privacy considerations, and climate-responsive elements including waterscape features for temperature regulation.
