The MIXc Kunshan Kids Area is an innovative interior design project located in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, China, that masterfully integrates parenting, leisure, and educational functions within a 4,500-square-meter commercial space. Designed by renowned architect Li Xiang, this Silver A' Design Award-winning project draws inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Kunshan, particularly its significance as the birthplace of Kunqu Opera, often referred to as the mother of Chinese Opera. The design ingeniously translates traditional cultural elements such as Yunjian, long sleeves, horsetail whisk, Kuitou, facial makeup, and musical instruments into child-friendly motifs through sophisticated design language. The space features coordinated facade designs that effectively blur the boundaries between public areas and retail stores, creating a seamless, immersive environment. The designer's approach incorporates scientific planning of consumer movement patterns, establishing multiple points of interest throughout the space, including customized soft furnishings that serve dual purposes as rest areas and interactive photography spots. The project, completed in November 2019, showcases a revolutionary approach to public area design through its unified thematic aesthetics and innovative spatial narrative. The high-rise space housing the parent-child park creates an open reception area that serves as a focal point within the children's theme area, simultaneously providing visibility for mall visitors and generating foot traffic for surrounding shops. The design's success lies in its ability to balance functional requirements with aesthetic cohesion while incorporating educational elements that celebrate traditional Chinese culture in a contemporary, child-friendly manner.
